Week 9 brought about some more surprises and we felt it on our picks. The G5 Panel hit on 75% of winners, 46% of covers, and 54% on over/under. For the year, the Guru panel has picked the winner correctly on 78% of 288 games. We have picked the cover correctly on 55% of games and the over/under correctly on 50% of games.
Week 10 is a full slate of games with 33 on tap including some key conference showdowns in the MAC, CUSA, and the MWC.
Week 10 begins on Tuesday night with some MACtion as three games are on tap. Akron hosts Ball State, Ohio welcomes Miami (OH), and Toledo hosts Eastern Michigan. The Toledo-Eastern Michigan game has big implications in the MAC West as both teams are in a logjam of five teams tied for second place. The G5 Guru panel sees Ball State over Akron covering the 19.5 point spread and Miami (OH) over the Bobcats in a tight affair. The Guru Panel is all in on Toledo and believes the Rockets will win and cover in a game that will exceed the 53 point line.
Wednesday night we get two more MAC games that have big conference standing implications as Western Michigan host Central Michigan and in a battle of divisional leaders Kent State welcomes in Northern Illinois. Western Michigan stubbed their toe against Toledo in their last game out but we see them righting the ship and handling the Chippewas, but not covering the spread. There was much debate on the Kent and Norther Illinois game among the G5 Guru Panel. Kent is giving 5 to the Huskies and the consensus of the Panel is the Golden Knights will win and cover in a low scoring game.
Thursday sees some Funbelt action as #24 ranked Louisiana hosts a Georgia State team seems to have found its footing with 3 straight wins and is tied for first in the Sunbelt East with Coastal Carolina and App State. In a rare Golden Guru pick, the panel believes the Cajuns will win, cover, and the total will exceed the points.
Saturday features two pivotal matchups in the CUSA beginning with Florida Atlantic hosting Marshall. The panel likes the Herd in a tight, low-scoring battle. In the second matchup our panel sees UTSA winning but failing to cover against a tough UTEP squad playing at home.
The MWC also has a couple key matchups as #25 Fresno State takes on Boise State and Nevada welcomes San Jose State in a West division showdown. The Guru Panel sees Fresno State narrowly prevailing over the Broncos, while Nevada will win and cover in a game that will exceed the points.
In a key AAC game Memphis hosts SMU. The Mustangs are still smarting from its first loss and we expect them to play with a sense of urgency. Look for SMU to win and cover, but for the game to stay below the high 71 point line.
In Sunbelt action, #21 Coastal Carolina visits always dangerous Georgia Southern. Georgia Southern is struggling but has shown some promise at home this year. We believe Coastal wins easily, but will struggle to cover the 19.5 point line.
In a game with significant implications for the Commander-in-Chief trophy, the Army Black Knights host the Air Force Falcons. The point line for this game are low at 37.5. We believe there is a reason for that as both teams love to control the clock. The panel believes the Black Knights will spring the upset in a low scoring affair.
